Movie Posters
Movie posters are a major and traditional part of film
promotion. In fact, they have been around since the earliest public
film exhibitions. These were short films that began to be presented
during the late nineteenth century.
At first, movie posters simply displayed the title of the film. This
was done in the old broadside style of signs, meaning it simply displayed
text related to the film. For instance, the earlier sign would have
little more than the title of the film in addition to dropping the creator's
name.
Movie posters today are quite the contrast. Often, primary emphasis
is placed upon the visuals. Of course, even there, many different styles
go in and out of vogue. At time, hand painted illustrations had more
appeal. Today, photorealistic images have more draw. Sometimes minimalism
is preferred while at others a more cluttered approach is desirable.
