Movie Ratings
Movie ratings were created so that films could be more
easily classified by suitability. The matters which people take into
consideration for such ratings include such things as the amount of
profanity, violence, sex, or substance abuse in a film. By judging the
mature content of a film in such ways, people can judge whether or not
they feel the material is suitable for their children to watch.
Of course, plenty of movie ratings also matter to adults. For instance,
some people are uncomfortable with seeing substance abuse on screen.
For others, sexual content may disagree with their religious beliefs
and so they'd wish to not develop an unhealthy focus on it. Some people
find that they are more agitated and aggressive after watching violence
in a movie and wish to reduce that experience in their lives.
Movie ratings and their efficacy are often debated. Whether or not
the rating must be legally imposed will also vary according to region
or jurisdiction. Some people feel that such systems should be made more
strict and actually enforced. Others feel that they are not very useful
and should be given less weight.
